What is a progress report?

A progress report is a mid-term check-in on how your child is doing, sent partway through a grading period, before the final report card. Its whole purpose is timing: it flags a slipping grade or a missing assignment while there's still time to fix it.

What's usually in it

• Current grade in each class
• Missing or late assignments
• Teacher comments or concerns
• Notes on effort, behavior, or attendance

Progress report vs. report card

A report card is the official grade at the end of a marking period, the final word. A progress report comes earlier and is a heads-up, not a verdict. If you only see the report card, the moment to help has already passed.
