How to get Canvas notifications as a parent

Canvas is where a lot of school messaging actually lives: assignments, grades, and teacher announcements. But you only get notified if you set up a parent (observer) account and turn on the right alerts.

Set up a parent account

• 1. Ask your school for a pairing (observer) code for your child.
• 2. Create a Canvas observer account on the web, or download the Canvas Parent app.
• 3. Add your child using the pairing code.

Choose your notifications

In your account settings, Canvas lets you pick what to be notified about (announcements, grading, upcoming due dates) and how often (right away or a daily/weekly summary). A daily summary is a good balance for most parents.

The gap notifications leave

Even set up well, Canvas is only one of your channels: email, ParentSquare, Remind, and texts all carry school messages too. AVVI reads them all in one place and tells the urgent items from the routine ones, so a Canvas due-date alert doesn't get lost among everything else.
